Poem :: Let Yourself

Let your heart break
Let the cracks form and the blood run
Let yourself cry and rage and question
For without these, you’ll never understand joy

Let your stomach churn
Let your nights be sometimes too short
Let yourself understand that bad things happen
For without these, you’ll never know what bothers you enough to try fixing

Let your mind change
Let your world be disturbed and disrupted
Let yourself admit that there are times when reason and answer elude you
For without this, you’ll never understand the freedom of not needing to know it all

Let your voice grow
Let your laughter and cries and shouts shake the rafters
Let yourself feel and think and speak and listen
For without these, all of these, you’ll never be fully human, fully yourself
